Who is SIFE for?
All students. All majors. All campus.
AU SIFE is designed for anyone at Anderson University pursuing any major. There
is a place for you in SIFE. We really do stand behind our mission of developing
passionate leaders who are positvely impacting the world.
How much time does SIFE take?
You can invest as much or as little time in SIFE as you would like. Spend an
hour or less per week on a project or take on a leadership position and invest
15 to 20 hours per week. Consulting managers invest a minimum of 50 hours to
their team and consulting team members are required to invest a minimum of 30
hours over the year. Either way, there is a place for you to make a difference
and use your skills.
Why do people join SIFE?
SIFE has a lot to offer students from all across campus. Enhancing leadership,
teamwork, management, and communication skills are at the top of the list. SIFE
is actively involved in the Anderson community and students are part of creating
a change right where they are living. SIFE competitions offer job fairs and opportunities
to meet and talk with business professionals from areas that students are interested
in entering. The time and effort put into SIFE will create situations for which
students can talk about in future job interview situations. Below are some reasons
that current SIFE members choose to join:
Is it too late to join this year?
Of course not. Some projects don't start up until later in the year. Others need
more help as the project grows and develops.
What are reasons other people joined SIFE?
“I wanted to get more involved on campus and I wanted to do something
with business.”
“Business experience and contacts”
" Encouragement from professors and SIFE student leaders."
“ It [is] a great opportunity to put into practice what I’ve learned
in class.”
“ For the experience outside the classroom and to work with people in [my]
same major.”
“ Fun people...looks great on a resume.”
“ I was recruited by others and SIFE could provide me with some practical
business experience.”
“ Sounded like fun and there would be a lot of good opportunities.”
“ To help me in the future.”
What Can I Do?
This is a the beauty of SIFE. We are a large enough organization that
we have a variety of projects going on at one time. Last year we ran 26 projects.
This means there is a role for everyone. It now comes down
to getting you matched up with the right project. Take some time to look around
this website, especially at the program pages (Community, Entrepreneurial, and
Global) as well as the events page to get an idea of what all we do in the course
of a year. Does one of these appeal to you? Read on to find out what your next
step is.
Are there any requirements for students?
We do have a few things that we ask all students who are members
of SIFE to do. They are for the purposes of getting an accurate count
of how many members we truly have. That requires us defining what it
means to be a member of SIFE. Here are the three things we ask of a
member:
1. Volunteer a minimum of 5 total hours on a project(s) over the course
of the school year (September through April).
2. Attend three SIFE events: The Connect 2 Dinner,
The Consulting Showcase, and The Reardon Competition Practice.
3. Register as
a SIFE student online at www.sife.org.
What Do I Do Next?
So, you are interested. Now, we need to find you a spot that would fit you
well. So, we need to hear from you.
Here is what you need to do:
Send us an email.
Include: your name, grade, major, and how or why you are looking to get involved
in SIFE. If you have an idea of where you might like to help out, let us know
that as well. Refer to specific projects if you can. If not, that's okay.
You should get a response within a day or two. If not, contact
the SIFE president, Kyle Schroeder, and he will make sure we find a place
for you.
Come to an Event
We have listed online our SIFE-run events for the year. Several of these are
open to the entire campus. If you want to learn more, come to event and ask
someone there how you can get involved.
