Community Impact
We are focused on helping others acquire the education and skills training needed to succeed in a dynamic, competitive global economy as well as helping others develop the personal financial management skills necessary to achieve financial independence.

There are two of our Principal Projects located within our Community Impact program that specifically address the above goals. They are:
1. First Steps (Success Skills)
2. Second Chance (Financial Management Skills)

Additionally Community Impact projects include:
3. CYNCY Teacher’s Edition
4. CYNCY Classic
5. Barter Game

First Steps (Project Manager: Todd Baden)
This project targets high school students. Students from multiple high schools in the area are invited to a job fair in the spring where they are recruited by local businesses for either summer or permanent work. Prior to the job fair, SIFE members visit the high school students to teach them how to fill out an application as well as how to fill out a typical application form. This project is in its second year and we are working to reach even more students.

Second Chance (Project Manager: ?)
This project focuses on the adult demographic in our community. We realize that with the closing of recent businesses in the community, there is a need to provide those individuals with a variety of skills to get them back on their feet. Teaching a financial management seminar is one way that we are able to do this. SIFE then attempts to connect people with resources to help them with the financial issues they may be dealing with. Additionally, we will continue our work with the local state prison where we are helping inmates transition from prison to life as a productive citizen. We are also looking to work with some other community groups that could benefit from us teaching this information.

Cheat Your Neighbor Cheat Yourself (CYNCY) Teachers’ Edition (Project Manager: ?)
This year's focus will be on developing the entire package to make this accessible for teachers throughout the state. This will involve finishing the workbook, producing more DVDs, and developing a complete kit for the teachers.

Cheat Your Neighbor Cheat Yourself (CYNCY) Classic (Project Manager: ?)
This project targets elementary students. Through a DVD, workbook, and discussion, students learn that when you steal, you are hurting yourself and the store. SIFE members go to schools during the school day where they teach the lesson. Each class visit is about an hour and most schools visited are in the Madison County area.

Barter Game (Project Manager: ?)
This project targets middle school students. Students are taught the value of free trade through a game in which students have some of the pieces to create a candy airplane, but must trade pieces with other students to be able to create a complete plane. SIFE students then return for a second time to do a Trading Day. Each student brings in an item from home valued at less than $5.00 that they do not want anymore. They then trade that item with another student for something they want more to further enforce how trade enhances the economy. The goal for Barter Game this year is to get sponsored by various companies to provide toys for students. This will eliminate any problems that may arise when working in a lower income community.
